Autumn signs - NOT amateur radio

Today is very dull and windy. This photo was taken a few days ago when the sun was shining. Most of the trees are now bare of leaves.

Autumn has arrived - NOT amateur radio

In the last few days autumn has suddenly arrived. A few weeks ago the trees were largely green. Now most are bare.

This was our local churchyard earlier.

Autumn - NOT amateur radio

We have had a very wet autumn. Usually, this is the driest part of the UK. Most summers our grass turns brown, recovering over the winter. This year, it has stayed green.

My wife took this photo on the way to the dentist this morning.

Autumn - NOT amateur radio

This afternoon, we went for a walk around the village. There are definite signs of autumn now with leaves falling and a distinct chill in the air.

Autumn is coming - NOT amateur radio

At last, the leaves are changing and it looks more like autumn. The photo shows the trees on the green this morning.

Autumn - NOT amateur radio

It looks more like autumn every day. The photo shows the fallen leaves at nearby Anglesey Abbey yesterday.

No wonder "autumn" is called "fall" in the USA!

Autumn 10 years ago - NOT amateur radio

This was the view from our bedroom 10 years ago. If anything, I suspect autumn was a few weeks early this year.

Autumn - NOT amateur radio

Autumn in Ontario, Canada

This photo of Ontario in autumn was posted by a friend on 365project recently. What amazing colours.

Autumn splendour

For about 6 years we have been following this tree at Anglesey Abbey nearby.

At the moment it looks magnificent, but in a few short weeks it will be bare until spring. I just love seasons.

Signs of autumn - NOT amateur radio

It is getting cooler!  Autumn is here.

We'll blink and it will be Christmas again and days will be getting longer once again.

Autumn colours - NOT amateur radio

We saw these earlier on our walk to Wicken Fen where we had a bite to eat for lunch.

Where did summer go? - NOT amateur radio

It seems hard to believe, but today is the last day in August. According to the UK Met Office (weather) autumn starts tomorrow! We have had a dry, hot summer. When the autumn chills come, they will be a shock.

Autumn - NOT amateur radio

It has turned much colder in the UK and we can see we are now in autumn. This photo shows the leaves in our garden.

Autumn in the garden - NOT amateur radio

Suddenly it is autumn. A week ago our ornamental cherry tree still looked green. Now the leaves have turned brown and with a gust of wind loads of leaves will fall. Another few weeks and it will be bare until the spring.

This morning, before returning home my son cut my hair and took a photo of my wife and I with 2 of the grandchildren.

Autumn garden - NOT amateur radio

At the moment it is very mild, although things are expected to get far colder later in the week. There is a  hint of autumn with colours starting to change. In another month things will look much different.

Next autumn

This autumn has been strange. With luck we should see a Covid-19 vaccine widely available and the health implications of our pandemic crisis should be largely behind us. It will take years for the economies of the world to re-adjust, but they will.

On the amateur radio front, we should be climbing up sunspot cycle 25 and North Americans should be reliably coming through on 10m. In the last peak there were VE and W stations on 10m AM coming though just above 29MHz. I even copied some well on a super-regen RX mobile! If the solar predictions are to be believed, the next solar cycle will be much like the last. Compared with the 1950s, this was a poor affair, but 10m was once again a good DX band.

Autumn garden - NOT amateur radio

Already our garden is looking autumnal. Dew is now appearing on the grass and trees are starting to lose their leaves.

Last summer we lost a fair bit of the grass due to the heat. After reseeding (as you can see) the grass is recovering well.

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness - NOT amateur radio

Autumn is the season when leaves fall and the fruit trees are filled with ripe fruit. Our next door neighbour has well laden apple and plum trees. My own crab apple tree has more fruit than ever. A friend makes crab apple jelly, which is delicious with some meats. The photo shows a conker still in its shell.

Autumn - NOT amateur radio

The trees in our village are now looking distinctly autumnal. The trees in our garden are golden or bare and the ones in the churchyard are rapidly losing their leaves. Blink and it will be spring again!

Coming autumn - NOT amateur radio

Spiders web on the window earlier
It is definitely getting colder here. In the garden it now looks like autumn with leaves really falling and dew on the grass.  In a few weeks most trees will be bare.

The seasons are great: each has something special: the long warm summer evenings and snuggling in front of the fire on a cold winter evening.
