This photo was posted on 365project recently. I think it is of the Great Lakes in Canada at sunrise.

American hotels and breakfast - NOT amateur radio

One of my first surprises on trips to the USA was that few (no?) hotels offer breakfast. They expect you to get this down the road. Most have places to eat very nearby, but if you are not used to this it comes as a surprise. I have an old work colleague who is in Indiana for a conference and he was caught out. The hotel and conference centre was a place to meet and sleep, but little else.

Once, in eastern Canada, we stopped for breakfast at a roadside cafe. There were 6 fried eggs and lots more on the plate. It was huge. We did not go hungry!

10m WSPR - now spotting Canada

At 1550z VE3KCL (5696km), running 200mW WSPR, is being spotted here (just) at -29dB S/N.

UPDATE 1735z: 4X1RF (3519km) has spotted me 10 times so far today.

UPDATE 1910z:   For well over an hour now I have been spotting, and been spotted by,  just locals. It is too soon to call it a night and there might yet be more DX on 10m WSPR. For now, I shall stick with 10m to see what happens.  Later I might QSY to MF.

UPDATE 1958z: No DX on 10m WSPR for 2 hours, so soon time to QSY to 630m (472kHz) WSPR.

UPDATE 2200z:  Been on 472kHz since about 2020z.

10m - USA/Canadian DX

During this afternoon on 10m I have been spotted, and spotted myself, by several different stateside stations (3 and 4 call areas in the USA) with best DX 6505km so far.  Interestingly, I have spotted just one South American station PY2RN (9550km) around 1200z and later.  It is interesting to see such an opening to the USA as we approach summer conditions.

There must be a reasonably good chance of long path propagation to the Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Australia later this evening on 10m.

UPDATE 1720z:   Only European stations by Es on 10m in the last few hours.

UPDATE 1725z:     VE3PLE just spotted. First Canadian for a while on 10m.

UPDATE 1935z:    TI3/AB4AW (8752km) spotted twice in Central America (Costa Rica).

UPDATE 1955z:     In among all the DX, G7FYO copied at 162km with -4Hz Doppler, suggesting aircraft reflection.

UPDATE 2010z:    DX from the USA still very much in evidence on 10m. K3NAL spotted at -16dB S/N.

UPDATE 2126z:   K3NAL just spotted (again).
