Not on today until later

As I am meeting an old school friend in Cambridge later, I do not expect to be active until very late.

QRT

As we have visitors until late tomorrow, I am being "sociable", so I have gone completely QRT with everything turned off. This means I am unlikely to be on 10m WSPR or 8m FT8 until late tomorrow.

QRT

Tonight, I have gone QRT and will not be on 472kHz WSPR overnight.

27 Oct 2018

A night off

Most nights I QSY from 10m FT8 to 630m (472kHz) WSPR. Tonight I have decided not to go on any band. My rig and PC have been on continuously for several days without a break.

Knowing my luck, 472kHz propagation tonight will be amazing!

9 Oct 2018

Night off

After the excitement today on 2m FT8 and the 70cm activity contest this evening, I am now QRT on all bands. At this moment I am unsure what I'll try tomorrow.

1 Oct 2018

QRT

I went QRT at 2000z. Overnight I am not active on any bands RX or TX.

28 Sept 2018

QRT on all bands

At about 2015z I pulled the big switch and went QRT on all bands. I should be back on later tomorrow. 2m FT8 was great and there was even some activity on 10m FT8.

12 Aug 2018

QRT

The big plug has been pulled and everything disconnected until the morning. Yet again I am "blown away " by what can be spotted on 2m by FT8.

10 Aug 2018

QRT

At around 2000z I decided to go QRT and disconnect antenna, PC and PSU. Although there were no signs of storms, I had spotted very little since teatime.  Overnight storms are unlikely, but I shall stay "disconnected" until the morning. At this moment I am unsure whether I go on 10m or 6m.

QRT on all bands and thoughts of MF

At about 1930z I decided to go QRT on all bands.

It will soon be time to return to 472kHz WSPR. This autumn and winter I may concentrate on 472kHz RX and for this I need a better antenna. G3WCB, who moved to South Devon when he retired, has had good results with a small loop. Ideas!

18 Aug 2017

Now QRT on all bands

Even though propagation was still good, I decided to go QRT for the night. All being well, I'll be back on again at breakfast time - storms permitting.

9 Aug 2017

Final QRT tonight

Finally, I went QRT on all bands about 1930z. I may go on again tomorrow.

8 Aug 2017

Wednesday looks dire!

The WX tomorrow looks miserable with lots of dark clouds, rain and thunder/lightning. Shortly I shall go QRT and it is doubtful if the rigs will get switched on tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow is a day to read a book instead.

7 Aug 2017

Storms Tuesday?

The weather forecast for the next few days is bad. Rain (heavy at times) is forecast before things might improve on Thursday. There is a chance of thunder too. If so, I may be off air for a few days.

See https://www.lightningmaps.org/blitzortung/europe/index.php?lang=en .

UPDATE 1558z: At the moment, it looks like we may miss the storms tomorrow. I''ll check in the morning.

6 Aug 2017

QRT until tomorrow

As the Es seems to have stopped, I have gone QRT on 10m and 6m. I should be on at breakfast time in the morning.

1 Aug 2017

QRT - storm risk

The latest weather forecast show the greatest storm risk here is now 1300-1400z, so I have decided to go QRT and disconnect everything including rigs, PC, antennas and mains plugs. I may be back on later after the storm risk has passed. Already, the wind is blowing. Bad weather is coming.

See https://www.lightningmaps.org/blitzortung/europe/index.php?lang=en .

UPDATE 1524z: So, the storms never came and there are no storms forecast. Shortly I shall reconnect things and start TXing again.

29 Jul 2017

Now QRT

As the Es seems to have stopped, I went QRT on all bands at 2110z. Depending on where the storm risk is, I hope to be on again tomorrow. At the moment the storms are mainly over Belgium.

Now QRT

Everything is now off until after breakfast tomorrow.  As yet, I've not decided what band to try on Friday.  Maybe 10m JT65 or WSPR? It depends on the K-index. If this is low, there is a chance of some DX on 10m.

Otherwise I may return to 6m MSK144 again as this is largely (entirely?) independent of solar conditions. Certainly 6m MSK144 has been a total surprise, but I like the challenge of 10m: there is still life there, but it needs activity to prove this.

2 Dec 2016

Not on any band tonight

Tonight, overnight, I am not on any band. I went QRT on 10m JT65 about an hour ago and should be back in the morning around breakfast time.

23 Nov 2016

Time to go QRT

In a few minutes I shall be going QRT on all bands. 10m has been disappointing again and just G0LRD again on 6m. David is not too far away.
